Summarize the
information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make necessary
comparisons where relevant.
The given chart indicates at the percentage of the speakers
of Irish Language in 4 different states of Ireland, namely Leinster, Munster,
Connacht, and Ulster, and the country as a whole.
It can clearly observed from the trends indicated in graph
that the population of speakers of Irish language increased at a very slow rate
between 1981 and 1991 in all four states, as well as the country, Leinster
registered even a fall between 1981 and 1986.
There was a spurt in number of speakers of native language
between 1991-1996, highest being in Munster, 10%. The nation also recorded a
healthy rise. From 1996 to 2002 the rise in all states was negligible.
The figures also present a striking fact that Connacht had
highest number of speakers throughout the quoted period, 38%and 48%; followed
by Munster, though this state witnessed highest growth in number of Irish
speakers; and Ulster recording second highest growth rate of 12%. Leinster had
least number of speakers throughout that were even below the national averages.
