If the shell is not retrieved for extraction of silk, larvae transforms itself into silkworm moth itself in matter of 16 days.

The retrieved cocoon is boiled in water in order to kill the larvae inside. After boiling process,  shell  is unwound into yarn. A cocoon can yield a single strand of length between 300 to 900 meters.  The yarn Is twisted into a thread which is either dyed directly or woven into a cloth and sent for dyeing.
