IELTS Writing Task 1: Process Diagram with Sample Answer

IELTS Writing Task 1: Process Writing  with Sample Answer
The diagram shows how electricity is generated by a hydroelectric dam.
Write a 150-word report for a university lecturer explaining how the process works.

Academic Writing Task 1- Hydroelectric
The diagram depicts and elaborates the process of electricity generation with help of Hydro project.

The hydroelectric power generation process involves construction of a dam to store water in the reservoir; and a powerhouse to house generation equipment. The water from dam’s lake is channelized to the turbine through intake and a narrow channel called Pen stock. The water channels are usually narrow passages which are designed to add speed and force to the flow of water. The force of water is, in turn, used to turn the turbine which subsequently runs the generator unit, connected to it, in the powerhouse. The water that passes through channel; and turns the turbine is routed into the river through a second tunnel.

The electricity resulting from such process is transmitted to distant locations with the help of long distance transmission lines.

**Hydroelectric power generation is a long term solution for meeting power requirements as it is renewable resources; and does not use fossils fuels.
** can be alternated with -
Hydroelectric electricity generation process involves four phases, i.e. storage in reservoir; directing towards the turbine through tunnel; electricity generation through generator; release of water into the river; and transmitting electricity through power lines.

Ielts Academic Writing Task 1 -  production of colored plastic paper clips

The depicted flowchart depicts the manufacturing process of plastic paper clips in a small factory.
The process of manufacturing paper clips starts with molten plastic being poured into the moulds, namely blue, red and yellow, to get paper clips of these colors. After molding, the clips are tested for their endurance with help of a quality control machine and the clips not found appropriate are rejected.
The clips fulfilling the design and strength parameters are assorted by hand in a pre-established pattern or as per the queries received into batches of mixed colors and single colors. After the completion of sorting process, the pieces are subject to yet another quality control process is undertaken to ensure exact distribution of color mix or single colors as per   requirements. After completion of this final stage, the clips are packed and shipped to the markets.

To conclude, the manufacturing process of plastic paper clips involves four stages starting with molding to final dispatch.

The changes and patterns recorded by the floating buoys are collected to prepare synoptic charts.
The images beamed down by satellites are either relayed to analysis stage directly or are sent to the radar stations which further process the information to indicate information in form of radar images of globe or go further in developing synoptic charts.
The information collected in analyzed by weather experts and transferred for preparation of relaying the information.

central Heating system of a house
Ielts Acadmic Writing Task 1
The diagram shows central Heating system of a house. Summarize the information without any of main points in not less than 150 words.

This diagram provides an overview of a domestic central heating system. It shows how the tank, boiler and pipes ensure a constant flow of hot water to both the radiators and the taps.

The cold water enters the house and is stored in a water storage tank in the roof. From there ü flows down to the boiler, located on the ground floor of the house.

The boiler, which is fuelled by gas or oil, heats up the water as it passes through it. The hot water is then pumped round the house through a system of pipes and flows into the radiators, located in different rooms. The water circulates through the radiators, which have small tubes inside them to help distribute the heat, and this warms each of the rooms. Some of the water is directed to the taps to provide hot water for the house.

Once the water has been through the pipes and radiators, it is returned to the boiler to be re-heated and circulated round the house again.

Ielts Academic Writing Task 1 - Usage of waterGlobal

Comparative Global Usage Of Water By Three Sectors

Depicted graph illustrates changes in water consumption by farming, industry and household sectors in last century, i.e. from 1900 to 2000.

In 1900 water consumption in agriculture was under 1000 cu.kms while demand in industry and household sectors was much less than agriculture sector.

From 1900 to 1940 negligible changes were observed in demand for water in all three sectors. In next 3 decades (1940-1970) consumption in agriculture rose steeply, while demand in manufacturing and domestic sectors rose steadily. Between1970 to 2000 demand in farming further rose significantly while consumption doubled in manufacturing sector though domestic usage registered steady rise.

Similarly, table compares per-capita water consumption of Brazil and Congo in year 2000 in relation to population and area of arable land. The figures highlight that Brazil has much higher per-individual water consumption than Congo because of higher population and large parcel of arable land.

To conclude, farming sector has remained largest user of water with consumption rose three folds in a matter of century as illustrated by example of Brazil and Congo.

Ielts Academic writing Task 1 - The diagrams show changes to a university campus between 1985 and the present day.

Changes in University Campus

The diagrams show changes to a university campus between 1985 and the present day.

The given diagram depicts the changes incorporated in a university campus between 1985 and the today.

In 1985 the three science blocks (physics, chemistry and biology) were housed in separate premises which now have been integrated into single building called science laboratories.

The library block has been extended by adding IT center to it. Furthermore, the administration block has also been retained in the south eastern part of campus though its size has been reduced. There were two car parking areas in 1985. The parking in south west has given way to shuttle bus terminal.  Similarly, the parking in north eastern part has been built upon to accommodate lecture theatre.

One other major change incorporated in the campus layout  is removal of road surface except one connecting shuttle bus terminal with outside world. The roads have been replaced by footpaths which connect all the buildings and blocks. The campus now also has many trees which give it a greener look.

The campus is now more greener and organized than before.
