The given graphs illustrate changes in the use of energy resources in UK and the USA between 2000 and 2006.

In 2000, Britain and the US heavily relied on Oil and coal. While in the US, more than 70% energy was generated by Oil and coal, and rest of other sources accounted for barely 30%, distribution in UK was more even, since fossil fuels accounted for just above 50%, and others for about 42%. 

In the next six years, drastic changes were observed, as use of coal significantly dropped in both the countries, in UK consumption was almost halved, from 30% to 15%, while in US there was a drop of 10% in coal consumption.

Use of oil increased in the USA and UK, 40% and 30% respectively, dependence of USA on this source was heavy. In contrast, Britain became more adapted to use of Gas, as it accounted for highest used resource, 38%.

Use of other nonrenewable resources remained stable though used sparingly though nuclear power was used lesser.

Ielts Academic Writing task 1 -The bar graph shows the net worth (in million Euros) of various sectors in UK between 2005 and 2014.

The bar graph shows the net worth (in million Euros) of various sectors in UK between 2005 and 2014. Summarize the information for the lecturer of university by quoting important information. Write at least 150 words.

The given graph shows changes in the net worth (in million Euros) of various sectors in UK between 2005 and 2014, namely household, government, businesses and UK as a whole.

The net worth of domestic sector remained steady between 2005 and 2007, and registered a rise to over 6000   in 2011(from 4500). The figures of UK as a total indicated at a similar trend in corresponding period – rising from   4000   to   6000.

Both the household and UK total worth continued with an almost identical trend while substantially dipping by almost 500   (5200 and  5500 respectively) in 2012.

While the net worth of household registered a rise in 2013 and further rose to   6000   in 2014, the UK’s total worth further dipped in 2013 to   5200 and finally rising to 6000  .  

The net worth of the government registered a steady overall rise in the quoted period.

The net worth of business witnessed negative trends even though the situation improving a little in 2014, but not before experiencing decline in 2010.

Ielts Writing task 1 Sample Task - Functioning of a solar power water pump

Write a summary on the functioning of a solar power water pump in at least 150 words.

The given diagram depicts the function of a solar power water pump

The solar power water pumps uses solar energy which is produced by photovoltaic cells installed in the solar panel. There cells use energy of the sun derived from the sun rays.

The solar panels generate direct current power which is supplied to the bore pump underground. The bore pump is install and submerged in the water in the underground boring which is also known as bore well. When the bore pump is operated with the help of electricity generated by solar panels it pumps up water from the underground resources.

The water pumps from the natural underground reservoirs of water can be stored in the water tank. This water drawn from the underground reservoir can be put to use by the people of village as per requirement.

The process of drawing water from the underground reservoir is very simple, non polluting as an energy efficient system and can proved to be quite cost effective in the long run.

The given line graph depicts comparable changes in ratio of individuals aged 65 and older in Japan, The USA, Switzerland.

The ratio of senior citizens in population of USA was about 9% in 1940. The changes in the demographic trends indicate clearly that the ratio older people in the population is set to rise to about 23% by 2040 even though the population of old people stabilized at 15% in 1980, and in fact is expected to decline marginally till 2020.

Similarly, the ratio of the old people in the Switzerland is also expected register a rise of approximately 19% by 2040 – from about 7% in 1940 to 26% in 2040.

On the other hand, even though the ratio of aged Japanese was lowest in 1940 – 5%, and it further declined to below 5% till 1990, it is expected to rise more than five folds in corresponding period, to more than 27%.


The proportion of old people would rise in all the 3 countries in the quoted 100 period.

Ielts Academic Writing Task 1 - Types of Music as per age

The graphs below show the types of music albums purchased by people in Britain according to the age. 
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given graphs depict the inclination of men and women, in Britain, of different age groups to buying different genre of music, namely pop, rock and classical.

While men lead women in buying all kinds of music genre, the interest of individuals in the age group 16 to 44, and 45 and above, reflects similar trends in terms of buying pop and rock music: least number or people aged 45 and above go for these genre (below 10%);  approximately 15% of in age group 16-24; slightly less than 30% people aged between 25-34 years; and peaks at age 35-44 years 30% individuals.

Quite contrary to the trends in pop and rock, a sharp rise in inclination for classical is noticed among people aged 45 years and above – they led other age groups. They are followed by individuals in 25-34 years. A significant fall in interest in noticed among other age groups.


In the nutshell, while pop and rock music are preferred more by young British, older Britons like classical.

Ielts Academic Writing Task 1 - Graphs of Donors

The Chart Below gives information on the percentage of US nationals donating money to charity by age range for the years 1995 and 2015

The given chart presents information about the levels of donations made by US nationals of different age categories between 1995 and 2015.

In 1995, a major part of contributions towards donations came from people aged between 18 years and 50 years, in which, the highest percentage of donations – 45 percent – came from US nationals aged between 36-50 years; followed by people aged between 26-35 years – 35 percent; and 18-35 year old making a contribution of  17%.

By 2015, there was a sharp decline in contributions made by people of these age groups to 35%, 27% and 12% respectively.

On the other hand, the inclination to donate among the older age groups rose in the corresponding period. The percentage of donations from people aged between 50-65 years increased from 35% to 42% , and the percentage of money channelized into charities, by people over 65 years, registered a climb of approximately 6% (from 32% to 38%).


Overall, there was a decline in donations in these two years, twenty years apart.
