The
graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in
the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
Summarize
the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.
The given graph clearly illustrates information about energy
consumption, 1980-2015 and projections till 2030, by comparing use of conventional
and non-conventional fuels.
The use of petrol witnessed a rise between 1980 and 2015
from 35q to 45q with some minor fluctuations between 1980 and 1995. The consumption
of coal and natural gas registered similar trend to that of petrol rising from
16q and 20q respectively to 25q respectively. The projections up to 2030
indicate that while use of coal may rise, the consumption of natural gas would
be stagnant.
However, the use of non-conventional resources, like nuclear
– rising from 2q in 1980 to 7q in 2015, and wind and solar –increasing from 2q
to 5q, did see some rise in past 35 years, but use of hydro power has remained
stable. The use of these resources is expected to stay same over next 15 years.
Overall, reliance on conventional energy sources has been
overwhelming, while use of non-conventional energy resources is stagnant and may
continue to continue similarly till 2030.
