The given pie chart and table illustrate the reasons for the
deterioration of arable land, and three regions, namely North America, Europe
and Oceania, affected by the quoted reasons.
Overuse of land for grazing was a major cause of
deterioration in quality of arable land, amounting to 35% of total land lost.
Oceania and Europe were worst affected regions by this activity, with Oceania losing
over 90% land out of 13% total land lost and Europe losing more than 1/4th
of total land lost (23%).
Clearing of forests was next major reason for the loss of
agricultural land (30%). Europe was badly affected, losing almost 1/3rd
(7.7%) of total land lost. North America also, was affected, it lost majority
of land owing to agriculture.
Deforestation was followed by use of land for cultivation.
Agriculture resulted in a loss of 28% of the land. This factor affected Europe
the most.
Other miscellaneous reasons accounted for a loss of 7% of
total cultivable land.
